Anyone else love living in North DeLand?

Hello, With a population of 1,096, North DeLand is a small town. Homes are going for about $188,000 on average. You can expect to pay around $1,363 for rent here. Rent is about $1,363/month for a decent place. The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Anyone in a similar situation? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a software engineer, 39, moved here 12 years ago from Dallas. I've lived in Uptown and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Road conditions need improvement
2. Limited shopping options
3. The pet-friendliness situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Uptown: Great for families. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Dallas, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $80K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
