So, I've been here for 15 years and Crime rate is something to consider -North Fort Myers sits at 1,103.0 per 100K. The median home value here is around $137,700, which is actually reasonable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. What are your go-to spots? The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely average and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Maple Ridge. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in marketing. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
