Not sure if this has been asked before, but We have two kids and It's a a smaller city city with about 44,189 people. The suburbs are where most families end up. Am I overthinking this? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Bought a house here in 2015 and I genuinely enjoy living here. Property values have gone about the same since then.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's exactly what I was looking for. Internet is challenging in most areas.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely underrated and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (The Heights) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
