Anyone else feel this way? The median home value here is around $99,700, which is actually reasonable. What would you do?

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it exceeded my expectations. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value weather, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely better than expected and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Riverside) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Lakewood for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The dating scene scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. Definitely worth checking out..

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. the quality of life is solid. Compared to Salt Lake City it's decent.

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to San Diego it's underrated.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Four distinct seasons
- The nightlife scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for couples. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

If you value job market, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely average and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Uptown) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
