I've lived in Greenfield for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong job market in several industries
- The pet-friendliness scene is improving
The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 10 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Used to live on the East side, now on the Downtown side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's not perfect but it works for me. The only thing I'd watch out for is safety. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to Pittsburgh it's decent.

Bought a house here in 2021 and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Property values have gone down slightly since then.
