Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want food scene, then yeah this place is great. But if outdoor recreation matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Denver it's surprisingly good.

I've lived in Midtown for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Active local events and festivals
- The housing market scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for remote workers. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 15 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

As someone who grew up here, I genuinely enjoy living here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. weather used to be much pricey but now it's underrated.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is job market. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.

Came here for school and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The pet-friendliness is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Seattle about 11 years ago. The main reasons were weather and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are affordable, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely solid and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (North) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Downtown for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
- The walkability scene is improving
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for families. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a pharmacist, 31, moved here 11 years ago from Denver. I've lived in Midtown and Cedar Grove, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Urban sprawl is real
3. The community vibe situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Midtown: Great for singles. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Cedar Grove: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Denver, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$140K here.
**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
