Homes are going for about $338,900 on average. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is pet-friendliness. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely underrated and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from Seattle about 9 years ago. The main reasons were weather and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good internet infrastructure
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are stable, gas is challenging.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Hope this helps!.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. the quality of life is solid. Internet is tough in most areas.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Happy to answer more specific questions..

I've lived in Uptown for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- The community vibe scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for remote workers. Definitely worth checking out..
