Moving from Austin to North Lauderdale next month

I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Crime rate is something to consider -North Lauderdale sits at 513.3 per 100K. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Am I wrong here? The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want outdoor recreation, then yeah this place is great. But if cost of living matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is school system. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.

Hot take but I genuinely enjoy living here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 2 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Denver about 5 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good healthcare facilities
- Decent public transit for the size

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are manageable, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely tough and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Westside) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's been a really good experience overall. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Denver about 3 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Diverse dining options
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are developing, gas is average.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The school system scene is tough

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for young professionals. Happy to answer more specific questions..

I've been living here for 1 years and I'd say it's exactly what I was looking for. The school system is pretty good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Pine Hills. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Atlanta it's better than expected.

Weather-wise, the summers are pretty good and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

We moved here with our family and it's not perfect but it works for me. Schools in Fairview area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.

I've been here 5 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely improving and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Old Town) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
