Best neighborhoods in North Laurel

Hey everyone, I'm originally from San Diego and You can expect to pay around $1,913 for rent here. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. What do you all think?

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 10 years ago. The main reasons were weather and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are developing, gas is decent.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Hope this helps!.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in West for 1 years. Moved from Phoenix for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is hit or miss. We bought in 2018 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. West schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Homeless population growing downtown. And public transit can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 8/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
