Anyone else feel this way? Poverty rate is 1.7%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $119,533, which feels pretty solid for the area. You can expect to pay around $1,913 for rent here. It's a a smaller city city with about 25,201 people. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. What are your go-to spots? Cheers. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's exactly what I was looking for.

I work in tech here and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The job market for my field is underrated. No regrets on my end..

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in The Heights area are pretty good. Kids love it here.

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it was the best decision I ever made.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Pittsburgh it's average.

I've lived in South for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good healthcare facilities
- The pet-friendliness scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Limited entertainment options
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Downtown for 1 years. Moved from Tampa for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is surprisingly good. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.
**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is solid - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Downtown schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Far from beaches/mountains. And safety can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 8/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is walkability. Other than that, Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from LA about 15 years ago. The main reasons were weather and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Four distinct seasons
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are pricey, gas is excellent.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Happy to answer more specific questions..

As someone who grew up here, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. A lot has changed in the past few years though. nightlife used to be much growing but now it's excellent.

The food scene here is average. Tons of great Thai places. it exceeded my expectations.
