OK so I'm a teacher here and Poverty rate is 3.7%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $609,100 on average. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. What do you all think? Cheers. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value walkability, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely underrated and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Old Town) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Homeless population growing downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Background: I'm a marketing manager, 33, moved here 2 years ago from Dallas. I've lived in Greenfield and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Growing food and restaurant scene
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Limited shopping options
3. The school system situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Greenfield: Great for couples. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Dallas, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $90K-$130K here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 15 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
