Anyone regret moving to North Merrick?

Random thought, We have two kids and Crime rate is something to consider -North Merrick sits at 119.0 per 100K. Rent is about $2,873/month for a decent place. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. Let me know your thoughts. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to.

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in East area are pretty good. Kids love it here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Portland about 3 years ago. The main reasons were family and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good internet infrastructure
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Winters are long and cold

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are stable, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Old Town for 5 years. Moved from New York for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
finance is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Old Town schools are better than expected. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Bugs and humidity in summer. And public transit can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 9/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's been a really good experience overall. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from Dallas about 4 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good healthcare facilities
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are affordable, gas is challenging.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Good luck with whatever you decide..
