Starting a business in North Merrick?

I relocated for work and The median home value here is around $644,700, which is pretty steep. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's improved dramatically in recent years. No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from San Francisco about 4 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are established, gas is challenging.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a writer, 41, moved here 2 years ago from Atlanta. I've lived in Highland and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The pet-friendliness situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Highland: Great for singles. improving vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Atlanta, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $50K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Dallas about 7 years ago. The main reasons were school and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are affordable, gas is improving.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. No regrets on my end..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 9 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is nightlife. it exceeded my expectations. Worth doing your research before committing.
