Moving to North Miami -what should I know?

Been meaning to ask this. I'm a teacher here and Homes are going for about $326,300 on average. The unemployment rate is 3.4%, which is pretty low. It's a a smaller city city with about 59,429 people. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Would love some local perspective. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 6 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into running, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it was the best decision I ever made. Internet is improving in most areas.

Bought a house here in 2020 and I love the pace of life here. Property values have gone about the same since then.

I've lived in Old Town for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The cultural scene scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Property taxes are high

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. No regrets on my end..
