Should I move to North Myrtle Beach or stay in Houston?

Just moved here 4 months ago and Poverty rate is 4.4%, which is pretty low. With a population of 19,343, North Myrtle Beach is a small town. Median household income is $72,111, which feels about average for the area. The unemployment rate is 3.3%, which is pretty low. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Anyone in a similar situation? Looking forward to hearing from you all. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Pine Hills. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in education. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like Thai.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it was the best decision I ever made. Compared to Chicago it's hit or miss.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely solid and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (North) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Limited shopping options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
