Pros and cons of North New Hyde Park after 9 years

Hi all, Military spouse here. Average temperature is around 56--F, so the weather is moderate. Poverty rate is 1.8%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $797,600 on average. You can expect to pay around $2,283 for rent here. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I've lived in Cedar Grove for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Lots of new development happening
- Good internet infrastructure
- The cultural scene scene is challenging

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for young professionals. Happy to answer more specific questions..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it exceeded my expectations. Internet is average in most areas.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Westside for 9 years. Moved from San Francisco for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is tough - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Westside schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Can feel isolated. And community vibe can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 5/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
