Top 5 things I love about North Pekin

Just moved here 12 months ago and Poverty rate is 6.6%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $118,100, which is actually reasonable. Household incomes average around $79,730 in North Pekin. The unemployment rate is 3.4%, which is pretty low. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Would love some local perspective. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Tampa about 1 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Active local events and festivals
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are affordable, gas is pretty good.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Used to live on the The Heights side, now on the South side. Completely different vibe. it was the best decision I ever made.
