Relocating to North Plainfield, NJ -pros and cons?

Been meaning to ask this. I'm single, late 20s, and Homes are going for about $350,700 on average. It's a a small town city with about 22,667 people. Median household income is $83,529, which feels pretty solid for the area. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

I've lived in East for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Decent public transit for the size
- The cultural scene scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Used to live on the North side, now on the Maple Ridge side. Completely different vibe. it's not perfect but it works for me.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 4 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is school system. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.
