OK so The median home value here is around $328,700, which seems about average. Homes are going for about $328,700 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -North Port sits at 135.4 per 100K. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. What would you do? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. My experience has been mostly positive. it exceeded my expectations. The only thing I'd watch out for is public transit. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from Seattle about 9 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good schools in most areas
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited high-paying job options
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are established, gas is challenging.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. No regrets on my end..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 5 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've lived in Cedar Grove for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Active local events and festivals
- The cultural scene scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. Definitely worth checking out..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want food scene, then yeah this place is great. But if nightlife matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Internet is hit or miss in most areas.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Midtown for 6 years. Moved from Dallas for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.
**Employment:**
real estate is strong here. real estate is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Midtown schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Limited public transit options. And healthcare can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 9/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Hot take but it's exactly what I was looking for. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.
