Biggest downsides of living in North Puyallup?

Hey folks, I'm a college student here and Homes are going for about $335,500 on average. Rent is about $1,051/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Does this match your experience? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Cedar Grove. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Indian.

Hope this helps!.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are tough, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

As someone who grew up here, I genuinely enjoy living here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. traffic used to be much wild but now it's pretty good.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely solid and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Eastside) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Limited shopping options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
