Moving to North Richland Hills -what should I know?
Military spouse here. Median household income is $93,434, which feels pretty solid for the area. The unemployment rate is 2.0%, which is pretty low. The weather takes some getting used to. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Is this normal for North Richland Hills? Any help is appreciated. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Internet is better than expected in most areas.

Bought a house here in 2019 and it exceeded my expectations. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Uptown. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in construction. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Asian.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value traffic, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely solid and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Uptown) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Dating scene is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Midtown for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Four distinct seasons
- The cost of living scene is decent
The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to Baltimore it's surprisingly good.

Public transit is excellent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.
