Born and raised here. It's a a small town city with about 7,495 people. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

I've lived in Greenfield for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Strong job market in several industries
- The outdoor recreation scene is decent
The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Hot take but there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. I know a lot of people disagree but after 2 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's exactly what I was looking for. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Came here for cost of living and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The safety is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely solid and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (East) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Moved here from Seattle about 14 years ago. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Still getting used to pet-friendliness but It's not for everyone but it works for us..
