Moving from Omaha to North Valley Stream next month

Anyone else feel this way? I'm a 34-year-old project manager and With a population of 17,756, North Valley Stream is a small town. Poverty rate is 1.8%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $588,800, which is pretty steep. Crime rate is something to consider -North Valley Stream sits at 119.0 per 100K. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The suburbs are where most families end up. Worth the trade-offs? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Bought a house here in 2021 and it's been a really good experience overall. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Active local events and festivals
- Affordable housing options
- The safety scene is challenging

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Seattle about 9 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Four distinct seasons
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are pricey, gas is better than expected.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Definitely worth checking out..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Westside for 6 years. Moved from Portland for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. real estate is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Westside schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Urban sprawl is real. Can feel isolated. And housing market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 6/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's exactly what I was looking for.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want pet-friendliness, then yeah this place is great. But if cultural scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Hot take but it's exactly what I was looking for. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a sales manager, 40, moved here 10 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in Eastside and Lakewood, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Dating scene is rough
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The traffic situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Eastside: Great for couples. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Lakewood: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $80K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
