Random thought, I'm single, late 20s, and The median home value here is around $235,500, which is actually reasonable. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Am I wrong here? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

Bought a house here in 2022 and it's not perfect but it works for me. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Used to live on the Lakewood side, now on the The Heights side. Completely different vibe. it's not perfect but it works for me.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 12 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Maple Ridge for 7 years. Moved from Boston for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is excellent. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.
**Employment:**
government is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Maple Ridge schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not very walkable outside downtown. Property taxes are high. And job market can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 8/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
