Random thought, Median household income is $155,321, which feels pretty solid for the area. Rent is about $2,334/month for a decent place. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Am I wrong here?

I've lived in Oak Park for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Close to major attractions
- The nightlife scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Property taxes are high
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for couples. Hope this helps!.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Springfield. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in construction. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Indian.
