Curious what people think. My family moved here when I was a kid. You can expect to pay around $2,334 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 2.0%, which is pretty low. With a population of 34,642, Northbrook is a smaller city. The median home value here is around $644,100, which is pretty steep. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Am I overthinking this? The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

I've lived in Downtown for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Close to major attractions
- The healthcare scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. Feel free to reach out with questions..

My experience has been mostly positive. it exceeded my expectations. The only thing I'd watch out for is pet-friendliness. Other than that, Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

The food scene here is average. Tons of great Vietnamese places. it's not perfect but it works for me.

The food scene here is pretty good. Tons of great Korean places. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 8 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
