OK so Been living here since 2015. Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. Homes are going for about $134,800 on average. The median home value here is around $134,800, which is actually reasonable. Household incomes average around $63,486 in Northbrook. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. Worth the trade-offs? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to San Francisco it's average.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 3 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
