First post here. Median household income is $63,486, which feels about average for the area. Crime rate is something to consider -Northbrook sits at 661.1 per 100K. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Old Town. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in retail. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Southern.
Definitely worth checking out..

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Maple Ridge. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Italian.
