I've been here for 5 years and Crime rate is something to consider -Northfield sits at 36.9 per 100K. Rent is about $2,917/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $807,700 on average. Average temperature is around 50--F, so expect cold winters. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in The Heights. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Italian.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 7 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

I've been living here for 1 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The food scene is excellent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want community vibe, then yeah this place is great. But if walkability matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Bought a house here in 2016 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's not perfect but it works for me. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
