Working remotely from Northford

Hey folks, I relocated for work and The unemployment rate is 2.1%, which is pretty low. With a population of 6,161, Northford is a small town. Household incomes average around $104,919 in Northford. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Anyone in a similar situation? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Lakewood. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in finance. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Chicago about 6 years ago. The main reasons were school and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good internet infrastructure
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are stable, gas is average.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. No regrets on my end..

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's exactly what I was looking for.

Bought a house here in 2021 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely decent and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Highland) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Nashville about 9 years ago. The main reasons were family and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Affordable housing options
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are competitive, gas is pretty good.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Good luck with whatever you decide..
