Been meaning to ask this. I've been here for 13 years and Rent is about $1,164/month for a decent place. The unemployment rate is 2.7%, which is pretty low. Poverty rate is 9.6%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Northlake sits at 163.6 per 100K. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. What neighborhoods would you suggest? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value weather, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely hit or miss and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Old Town) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Uptown for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The cultural scene scene is underrated
The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for couples. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Public transit is decent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's not perfect but it works for me.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's exactly what I was looking for. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Weather-wise, the summers are solid and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from Dallas about 2 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Limited shopping options
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are established, gas is tough.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 3 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Four distinct seasons
- Affordable housing options
- The traffic scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Road conditions need improvement
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for young professionals. Hope this helps!.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely tough and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Old Town) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

Bought a house here in 2017 and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is housing market. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.

Came here for family and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community vibe is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. food scene used to be much developing but now it's solid.
