What surprised you most about Northport?

So, I'm a 47-year-old real estate agent and The median home value here is around $258,800, which seems about average. Crime rate is something to consider -Northport sits at 363.4 per 100K. Homes are going for about $258,800 on average. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. What would you do? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a teacher who relocated here from Austin about 1 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Lots of new development happening
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are pricey, gas is challenging.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Feel free to reach out with questions..
