Norton in the winter -how bad?

Hi all, I'm retired and Average temperature is around 49--F, so expect cold winters. Homes are going for about $181,900 on average. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to Minneapolis it's surprisingly good.

I've lived in Riverside for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Decent public transit for the size
- The job market scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for remote workers. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Hot take but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Denver about 5 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are wild, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely solid and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Highland) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
