I grew up here but left for a while. Poverty rate is 1.0%, which is pretty low. With a population of 13,610, Norwalk is a small town. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development. Would love some local perspective. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Riverside. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in tech. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Mexican.
Definitely worth checking out..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Highland. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Dallas about 4 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are wild, gas is solid.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 13 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
