Hi all, With a population of 39,992, Norwich is a smaller city. Rent is about $1,203/month for a decent place. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Should I be concerned?

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 12 years here, that's my honest assessment.

The food scene here is underrated. Tons of great seafood places. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

I'm a data analyst and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. The community is tough and there's always something going on.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from San Francisco about 7 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are reasonable, gas is average.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a project manager, 35, moved here 1 years ago from Pittsburgh. I've lived in Westside and Cedar Grove, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Four distinct seasons
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The community vibe situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for young professionals. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Cedar Grove: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Pittsburgh, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $40K-$130K here.
**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Public transit is excellent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it was the best decision I ever made. Internet is underrated in most areas.
