We have two kids and Crime rate is something to consider -Nyack sits at 485.5 per 100K. The unemployment rate is 6.5%, which is concerning. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. What are your go-to spots? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Westside. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've lived in Midtown for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The walkability scene is solid
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for families. Feel free to reach out with questions..

I'm a accountant and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. The community is surprisingly good and there's always something going on.
