Oak Forest quality of life -am I missing something?
I'm originally from Austin and Household incomes average around $87,941 in Oak Forest. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in Pine Hills area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

Bought a house here in 2017 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone about the same since then.

My experience has been mostly positive. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The only thing I'd watch out for is healthcare. Other than that, Feel free to reach out with questions..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it exceeded my expectations. Internet is excellent in most areas.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

Hot take but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. I know a lot of people disagree but after 2 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is pet-friendliness. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

Used to live on the Riverside side, now on the Downtown side. Completely different vibe. it's exactly what I was looking for.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in North. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in legal. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've been living here for 12 years and I'd say I love the pace of life here. The food scene is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..
