What I wish I knew before living in Oak Grove

Hey, Military spouse here. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Public transit is surprisingly good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it exceeded my expectations.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 10 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The healthcare is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I've been living here for 1 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The nightlife is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a project manager, 37, moved here 6 years ago from Nashville. I've lived in Old Town and Midtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Affordable housing options
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Limited shopping options
3. The outdoor recreation situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for young professionals. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Midtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Nashville, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $40K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 2 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

I've lived in Cedar Grove for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good internet infrastructure
- The weather scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to Nashville it's decent.
