Hey everyone, I work in tech and With a population of 8,477, Oak Grove is a small town. Household incomes average around $73,237 in Oak Grove. Poverty rate is 3.3%, which is pretty low. Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. The weather takes some getting used to. The weather takes some getting used to. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 9 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Decent public transit for the size
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are affordable, gas is pretty good.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Tampa about 4 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Road conditions need improvement
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are stable, gas is better than expected.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Springfield. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in finance. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Asian.
No regrets on my end..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want job market, then yeah this place is great. But if safety matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
