Hello, My family moved here when I was a kid. Rent is about $1,208/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 65--F, so the weather is moderate. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 15 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Springfield. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in tech. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Indian.

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Pine Hills. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in retail. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Asian.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 5 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Strong job market in several industries
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are manageable, gas is challenging.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. No regrets on my end..
