Best apartments in Oak Lawn under ?

Hey everyone, Rent is about $1,310/month for a decent place. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Bought a house here in 2015 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Greenfield. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in legal. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like Italian.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Meadowbrook. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in consulting. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are average, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I genuinely enjoy living here. Internet is hit or miss in most areas.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 13 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

We moved here with our family and it exceeded my expectations. Schools in Greenfield area are tough. Kids love it here.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Downtown for 8 years. Moved from Portland for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is solid - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Downtown schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Not a lot of cultural diversity. And job market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 9/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've lived in Downtown for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Close to major attractions
- The food scene scene is decent

The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Road conditions need improvement

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for young professionals. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
