Relocating to Oak Lawn, IL -pros and cons?

So, I grew up here but left for a while. Poverty rate is 6.0%, which is pretty low. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Is this normal for Oak Lawn? TIA! The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

I'm a project manager and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. The community is pretty good and there's always something going on.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely excellent and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Westside) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Hot take but I love the pace of life here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 2 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 3 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

The food scene here is hit or miss. Tons of great Asian places. it's not perfect but it works for me.
