Unpopular opinion about Oak Lawn

Not sure if this has been asked before, but The unemployment rate is 3.2%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $267,900 on average. Rent is about $1,310/month for a decent place. Median household income is $82,493, which feels pretty solid for the area. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to.

Pros:
- Friendly people
- Low crime in most areas
- Good schools
- Lots of new development
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons:
- Rising rent prices
- Sprawl everywhere
- Boring for young people
Let me know your thoughts. Thanks for reading. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a physical therapist, 39, moved here 4 years ago from Dallas. I've lived in Westside and East, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not a lot of cultural diversity
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The traffic situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for remote workers. decent vibes, walkable.
- East: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Dallas, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $90K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
