Just moved here 9 months ago and It's a a small town city with about 13,656 people. The unemployment rate is 3.6%, which is pretty low. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Anyone in a similar situation? The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 3 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from LA about 3 years ago. The main reasons were family and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong job market in several industries
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are established, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Happy to answer more specific questions..
