Longtime lurker here, I'm originally from Orlando and Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. Household incomes average around $108,026 in Oak Park. Median household income is $108,026, which feels pretty solid for the area. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Thoughts? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. As someone who grew up here, I love the pace of life here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much established but now it's decent.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 14 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value traffic, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely better than expected and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Uptown) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been living here for 4 years and I'd say it's exactly what I was looking for. The cost of living is average compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it's exactly what I was looking for. Compared to Chicago it's tough.

I've lived in The Heights for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- The cultural scene scene is solid
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Urban sprawl is real
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
