Been living here since 2014. Household incomes average around $65,882 in Oak Park. Average temperature is around 50--F, so expect cold winters. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Am I wrong here? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

I'm a lawyer and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. The community is hit or miss and there's always something going on.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 6 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Came here for work and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The community vibe is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Four distinct seasons
- The walkability scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Property taxes are high
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for young professionals. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in South for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Close to major attractions
- The healthcare scene is tough
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Property taxes are high
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in North for 8 years. Moved from Nashville for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.
**Employment:**
government is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. North schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited shopping options. Homeless population growing downtown. And walkability can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 8/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Dallas about 13 years ago. The main reasons were weather and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Nightlife is limited
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are competitive, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've been in Pine Hills for 8 years. Moved from Charlotte for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
legal is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Old Town. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in construction. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
