Is Oak Park still affordable?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but It's a a smaller city city with about 29,370 people. With a population of 29,370, Oak Park is a smaller city. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. What neighborhoods would you suggest? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 10 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Highland. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 8 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely better than expected and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (East) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Road conditions need improvement.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been here 15 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into running, this place is solid.

Hot take but there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. I know a lot of people disagree but after 1 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I've lived in Midtown for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The community vibe scene is average

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for couples. Feel free to reach out with questions..
