My experience has been mostly positive. I have mixed feelings honestly. The only thing I'd watch out for is traffic. Other than that, Definitely worth checking out..

Weather-wise, the summers are solid and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Cedar Grove. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in legal. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 1 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Cedar Grove. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in government. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Phoenix about 4 years ago. The main reasons were work and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Four distinct seasons
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are pricey, gas is average.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely excellent and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Eastside) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
