Born and raised here. Homes are going for about $523,500 on average. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The city has invested a lot in new development.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- The outdoor recreation scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
