Been meaning to ask this. I'm retired and It's a a small town city with about 7,660 people. The weather takes some getting used to. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Should I be concerned? The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value job market, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely better than expected and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Uptown) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from San Francisco about 12 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Lots of new development happening
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are stable, gas is underrated.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 15 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
